Paige Evans | 20 Days of Fall Cut Files

When Paige reached out to me a few months ago and asked if I would be interested in creating a layout for her 20 Days of Fall Cut Files, I immediately said yes. Her cut files are without a doubt my favorite and these series where she sends out a different themed cut file for each day are so fun. It's like waking up to a present each morning.

I had the pleasure of working with this amazing leaf heart cut file...

The leaf heart is cut out of a wood grain paper and I backed it with some colorful papers. I used some of the go-to fall colors like red, yellow, and brown but I also decided to mix in some nontraditional colors like green, pink, and blue.

After I had the heart of leaves backed, I added a hand-stitched border around the whole thing. I absolutely love stitching and the texture, dimension, and definition it adds and I thought this would be a good way to help the cut file design stand out with the layout design I had in mind.

This might have been the largest stitching project I've ever taken on. Not so much because it was a lot of stitching, but because of the difficulty of the stitching. I knew early on that I wanted the leaf heart to be adhered with foam adhesive so it was popped up. That meant that I had to add the stitching before I adhered it to the layout. It was much harder to stitching on the die cut without having the reinforcement of the cardstock base. It was a really slow process and many times I asked myself, "What in the world were you thinking!?"

But...

I am so happy with the outcome and it was all worth it. Plus, as crazy as it might sound, I love the process of hand-stitching so it really doesn't matter to me how long it takes.

I used the cut out, leftover piece of wood grain paper layered on top of white cardstock as my base and then adhered the heart of leaves with foam adhesive, lining up the edges of it with the edges of the cut out. To finish I added lots of smaller hearts and some word stickers around the whole design.
