Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper and stickers: PhotoPlay Papers; Heart punch: Martha Stewart; Computer font: Century Gothic; Embroidery floss: DMC

Every year I teach several classes at our We Create event and in the last few years I've kind of changed the format up. Before I would just create one layout for the class and we would typically have lot of paper and supplies leftover. There was a big part of me that really struggled with not using all of the supplies in the kits so I decided to make a change. Now I create until I feel like I've used as much of the supplies as I can. My favorite part of this process is the last layout I make with the dwindling supplies. Usually I'm left with a few scraps of paper and not much else. It's always a fun challenge to take a few strips or squares or whatever odd pieces I have leftover and see what I can make with them. So many times I end up with designs that I don't think I would have crafted unless I had just those few pieces at my disposal!

This layout was one of those "last" layouts and I was left with just a few small strips of each patterned paper. I tore the edges of each strip, layered them together to create a background and then tucked a photo in the design.

I didn't have much leftover when it came to embellishments so I had to get a little creative about the design. I thought it would be fun to turn the whole background into a dimensional design, kind of taking over for the lack of embellishments.

On each patterned paper I created a different design. From left to right:

• I added a cross pattern with hand-stitching on the orange.

• I fussy cut several leaves out of the patterned paper and adhered them with foam adhesive to the leaf paper strip.

• I stitch a small circle detail on the flowers.

• I used a heart punch with the same brown paper and added a stitched border. I also adhered them with foam adhesive so they stood out more.

This ended up being such a fun way to add some texture and dimension to those beautiful fall papers!
