Scrapbook Design Idea: Accenting Colorful Papers with Black

I know I'm not the only one that loves the striking look of pairing bright colors with black accents. It's such an eye-catching look and the black really makes those colors pop!

For this layout I used a heart wreath cut file (Silhouette Design Store #245641) cut out of black cardstock and backed it with a rainbow of colors. Bella Blvd has a collection of colorful papers that are perfect for rainbow designs. You can find them here at Scrapbook Generation.

I started with red and worked my way around through orange, yellow, green, light blue, teal, dark blue, purple, light pink, and dark pink.

For the larger hearts in the wreath I used a heart pattern and then to fill out of rest of the wreath I used solid colors. I also added lots of punched hearts to add even more detail.

There were also lots of black cardstock hearts that came from the cutting out of the wreath so I decided to use those as well. I loved the idea of adding colorful stitching and arranging them within the rainbow design.

I also added hand-stitching to a few of the larger hearts in coordinating colors. To finish the look I added some word/phrase pieces that match the colors of the heart wreath.

I highly recommend using black cardstock for large die cuts and backing them with colorful papers! It really makes an interesting and eye-catching design!

This layout was from a 2021 We Create class that I taught. You can get all the PDF materials of that class at Scrapbook Generation.

It includes a full sketch of the layout design that includes measurements and placements, four two-page sketches showing how to adapt this design to fit a two-page layout, and four page PDF w/ a large photo of the completed layout and detailed step by step instructions for completing the layout.
