Sketch Support #44 | Learn How to Use and Adapt Scrapbook Sketches | Day 2

Once a month learn how to use scrapbook sketches and adapt them to fit different styles, photo sizes, and themes. Sketches = endless scrapbooking ideas with little effort. Sketches do all the heavy lifting allowing you to have all the fun!

For my second layout I took a more simplified approach to the heart frame while still following closely to the overall design of the sketch.

Here is the two-page sketch that I'll be using this week:

This month it is a 3-page PDF of 22 different sketch options. That makes 23 sketches for this month of Sketch Support. There are options that show how to change up the papers, use more photos, use less photos, there are three one-page options, and then an 8-1/2 x 11" option. The fun part is that you could use each option as a layout on its own, but you could also mix and match different options for endless possibilities!

Variation #1 - Changing the hearts to squares.

One of the things I love most about this sketch design is that those hearts can be swapped out for so many different shapes or details. You can add more detail, go theme heavy, or you can simplify it, which is exactly what I did by using squares.

In order for the squares to frame the middle background design with equal margins all around, just like the hearts do, I had to use 1-1/2" squares.

And, the main reason I went with squares leads me to the next variation I made...

Variation #2 - Adding more photos.

With this set of photos I had four 3 x 5" photos and six smaller photos. Some of those smaller photos were 2 x 2" and some were 2-1/2 x 2-1/2" I loved the idea of cropping them down to the same size as the 1-1/2" squares and incorporating them into the frame design.

To ensure that those photos stand out I sanded the edges to expose the white core of the photo so that they had a little frame around them. I also strategically placed my embellishments near those smaller photos to help bring attention to them.

Variation #3 - Using a larger photo in place of the 2-1/2 x 3-1/2" photo.

My fourth photo that I wanted to use as the focal photo near the title was a 3 x 5" and I really didn't want to crop it down. Since the four photos on that center background piece are all so similar in composition, I loved the idea of them all being the same size.

That's often a go-to layout for me. I love repeating similar photos across my layout!

That's all for today! Be sure to check back tomorrow for another layout using this sketch.
