Sketch Support #45 | Learn How to Use and Adapt Scrapbook Sketches | Day 3

Once a month learn how to use scrapbook sketches and adapt them to fit different styles, photo sizes, and themes. Sketches = endless scrapbooking ideas with little effort. Sketches do all the heavy lifting allowing you to have all the fun!

The last layout of Sketch Support is always about showing how you don't have to let the size of the sketch determine the size of your layout. Two-page sketches can work for one-page layouts and one-page sketches can work for two-page layouts. There are always ways to adapt and adjust the elements to work on a different size!

Here is the one-page sketch that I've been using this week:

This month it is a 3-page PDF of 23 different sketch options. That makes 24 sketches for this month of Sketch Support. There are options that show how to change up the papers, use more photos, use less photos, there are four two-page options, and then an 8-1/2 x 11" option. The fun part is that you could use each option as a layout on its own, but you could also mix and match different options for endless possibilities!

Supplies used - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned papers: Simple Stories and My Mind's Eye; Corrugated paper: Fancy Pants; Wooden title piece: Color Cast Designs; Wooden stars: unknown; Word stickers: Authentique; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Century Gothic

Bells and whistles sang through my brain the second my eyes landed on this set of photos. Drew and Jackson were being silly with some long, skinny boxes at the store and it immediately reminded me of the strips on this sketch. The wheels starting spinning and I knew immediately what I wanted to do!

For the photos, I had four 4 x 4" photos to work with so I decided to arrange them in a row across the middle of the layout. This is on of my most common photo layouts for this size of photo. With them being right smack in the center they are always the main focus.

For the strips, I used 1-1/2" strips in place of the three 1/2" strips. They end up covering the same area, but with less cutting involved.

To arrange those strips I followed the sketch and repeated the design several times. If you look at the grid paper you can see the design twice and with the dotted paper you can see the design in the center and two half section on the left and right edges. With the strips design overlapped and linked together it gives a totally different look!

Since I went monochromatic with the papers (to match the cardboard boxes in the photos) I decided to keep that going with my title and embellishments. I had an old sheet of corrugated paper from Fancy Pants that was so perfect for this theme! I cut it into stars for the main embellishment and then added lots of smaller wooden stars as an accent.

I have to say, for a two-page layout, even with all the stitching, this one came together quite quickly! I love it when that happens!
