Over the years I have found that there are certain design concepts that I gravitate towards. After you've scrapbooked for several years you learn that there are designs that you can use over and over while adapting them to different papers and themes and ideas and end up with a unique design each time. The layout I'm sharing today features one of my favorite designs to do that with: a 12 x 6" background.

Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper, die cuts, and foam stickers: Simple Stories; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Century Gothic
There are many things I love about a 12 x 6" background design.
It has a perfect balance with a detailed design taking up half the page with white space filling the other half.
It's easy to adapt to any theme.
You can break up the 12 x 6" space into so many different patterns and designs - horizontal strips, vertical strips, squares, diamond, hexagon, layered torn strips, circles, stars, hearts...I could go on and on!
It works as a horizontal 12 x 6" background or a vertical 6 x 12" background.
You can use so many different photo amounts, sizes, and arrangements with it.
It works in many different placements - the top edge, the bottom edge, the middle, offset, etc.
It's just one of those designs that is easy to work with and easy to adapt to whatever your needs might be!

For this layout I created a background made up of horizontal strips and arranged it at the top edge of the layout with an small amount of the same strips along the bottom edge.

Then I added some stitched lines and a scallop border on the white space portion.

It's such a simple design concept with a big impact!
