Scrapbook Design Idea | Argyle Background

This layout is from a class I taught last year at the amazing Simple Stories Get Creative event. They really know how to put together a fabulous event!

To create this argyle-style background I first cut several squares out of a variety of patterned papers. I chose to use 6 x 6" papers for this design since the patterns are smaller and works well with smaller pieces like this.

Then to arrange the design I use my beloved Omnigrid ruler to draw a horizontal line in the center and a vertical line in the center. This serves as the guide for placing the first squares. All you have to is start with a square in the very center, lining up the four points with the horizontal and vertical lines. Then you can build out the remaining square from there.

Once you get the first horizontal row and vertical column of squares added, you can fill in the rest. You can also use a spare square to help line up the pieces since you don't have pencil lines for the rest.

When all of the squares were adhered I used my ruler to draw the diagonal lines that go over the openings and the patterned paper squares.

This is such a fun background design to use with 6 x 6" papers! And you can easily adapt it to different sizes and shapes as well!
