Scrapbook Design Idea | Slanted Strips Background

This ended up being such a fun, colorful background design and a concept that I can see myself using over and over again!

To create this design I started by cutting two background pieces (one for the left, one for the right) out of cardstock to create a template for the strips. I used a ruler and pencil to draw the slanted lines that will create the shape of the strips. I also numbered the strips from left to right so I knew which ones would go where on the layout.

Then I used my paper trimmer to cut out the pieces along the pencil lines. From here there are two ways you can use these template pieces. The first is to place them on the patterned paper you want to use and trace around them, then cut out with scissors or a trimmer. The second, and in my opinion the easiest, is to adhere the patterned paper directly on top of the template pieces.

After all of the pieces are ready you just adhere them onto your layout. You can adhere them back to back or you can leave a small gap in between them.

I also added a stitched border on each strip in a high contrast color to really enhance the appearance of the whole design.

This concept could work for so many designs and shapes! You can adapt it to work with virtually any shape or size that you need!
