Sketch Support #35 | Learn How to Use and Adapt Scrapbook Sketches | Day 2

Once a month learn how to use scrapbook sketches and adapt them to fit different styles, photo sizes, and themes. Sketches = endless scrapbooking ideas with little effort. Sketches do all the heavy lifting allowing you to have all the fun!

My second layout turns those circles into a fun themed element!

Here is the sketch that I have used as the starting point for each layout this week:

You can also grab the Sketch Support #35 Bonus Sketch Examples!

This month it is a 3-page PDF of 23 different sketch options. That makes 24 sketches for this month of Sketch Support. There are options that show how to change up the papers, use more photos, use less photos, there are four two-page options, and then an 8-1/2 x 11" option. The fun part is that you could use each option as a layout on its own, but you could also mix and match different options for endless possibilities!

Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned papers: Echo Park; Snowflake cut files: Silhouette Design Store #445487, #445378, #336196, #336195; Snow punches: Recollections and Martha Stewart; Acrylic word: Color Cast Designs; Acrylic snowflakes: Color Cast Designs; Nuvo Drops: Tonic Studios; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Avenir Next Condensed

For this layout I swapped out the circles for snowflakes to go with my "Snow Happy" theme. This is one of those sketches that you could really have a lot of fun with changing out those circles for different shapes and themes. Stars, hearts, squares, hexagons, flowers...there's so much you can do with this one!

For my photos, I used two 2-1/2 x 3-1/2" photos in place of the 4 x 4" photo on the sketch. The combined measurements of the two photos isn't that far off from the 4 x 4" photo on the sketch so I didn't have to make any adjustments for that to work.

I also added a little snowflake detail in the top left corner. With the snowflakes there's a little more white space and that little detail in the corner felt like a good balance to the layout.

To finish the layout I added lots of small acrylic snowflakes and some Nuvo Dream Drops in one of my favorite colors - Cloud 9. That color is perfect for snow pages!

That's all for today! Check back again tomorrow for my third layout using this sketch!

If you enjoy sketches or want to learn more about adapting them, I've got a year-long class coming up for 2024 with Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine.
