Sketch Support #40 | Learn How to Use and Adapt Scrapbook Sketches | Day 2

Once a month learn how to use scrapbook sketches and adapt them to fit different styles, photo sizes, and themes. Sketches = endless scrapbooking ideas with little effort. Sketches do all the heavy lifting allowing you to have all the fun!

My day #2 layout swaps out those circles on the sketch for a different shape while still following the general design of the sketch.

Here is the one-page sketch that I'll be using this week:

This month it is a 3-page PDF of 23 different sketch options. That makes 24 sketches for this month of Sketch Support. There are options that show how to change up the papers, use more photos, use less photos, there are four two-page options, and then an 8-1/2 x 11" option. The fun part is that you could use each option as a layout on its own, but you could also mix and match different options for endless possibilities!

Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper, foam shapes, stickers, foam words, and die cuts: American Crafts/Vicki Boutin; Wooden cameras and stars: unknown; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Century Gothic

Variation #1 - Changing the circles to stars.

There are so many shapes I want to use with this sketch and stars were high on that list! Stars are one of my favorite shapes to work with!

To start my layout I used some black acrylic paint mixed with a little a little water to thin it out and splattered it on some white cardstock. I have made a goal to play more with some mixed media elements and I felt like those splatters could stand in for some of the smaller circles on the sketch.

When it came to the arrangement of the stars I stayed fairly close to the arrangement of the circles on the sketch. It's not exactly the same, but it's close!

I also added in some star frames just to add a little interest. I have always loved using different types of the same shape and shape frames are a great option to add a little variety.

For my final detail I added some wooden stars and wooden cameras to match my theme.

Variation #2 - Changing the photo sizes.

I ended up using slightly larger photos: 2-1/2 x 3-1/2" instead of 2 x 3". There isn't enough of a size difference to warrant any changes to make it work.

That's all for today! Check back tomorrow for another layout based on this sketch!
