If I had to pick one shape for Fall it would, without a doubt, be a hexagon. There's just something about it that screams Fall to me. Maybe it's the quilt-like feel they give off when you group them together in a background, especially when you add stitching.

Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper, stickers, chipboard, and die cuts: Echo Park "At Home" collection; Hexagon punch: Fiskars; Flower cut files: Silhouette Design Store #440427, #328337, and #416491; Vine cut file: Silhouette Design Store #271160; Stickles: Ranger; Nuvo Drops: Tonic Studios; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Century Gothic
This layout showcases a design concept that I love using with two-page layouts. I will balance a really busy, detailed design (the hexagon background) with a simple, single sheet block (woodgrain).

Doing this allows me to have those super detailed designs that I love to create without overwhelming the page or my photos. It's all about balance!

Here's how I created the hexagon background:
I started with a base sheet of cardstock cut to the size I wanted the background to be.
Then I punched a bunch of hexagons out of various papers from the collection.
To begin the arrangement of the hexagons, I started in the center and worked my way out. This ensures that the design as a whole is balanced and centered on the background.
To really highlight the hexagon design I added hand-stitching in a high contrast color to a few of the hexagons.

It's a lot to create, but oh so beautiful when finished!
