Paige Evans Stitching Cut Files | Guest Designer | Layout #1

I was beyond thrilled when Paige asked me to be a guest designer and work with her newest set of 36 stitching cut files. I saw the word "stitching" and was already saying "YES" before I had even heard the details. Give me an excuse to do major amounts of stitching AND with cut files designed by Paige...I'm so there!

Today I'm sharing my first layout out of two.

For this layout I used the "Quilt for Stitching" cut file. You can purchase the cut files individually here or you can get all 36 stitching cut files here. And trust me, if you enjoy stitching you want them all!

When I was in the planning stages of this layout I thought that it might be fun to do an ombré look with the stitching and then I remembered one of my all-time favorite color fade patterned papers...

I LOVE blues and greens and all the colors that happen between them and so this beautiful paper became the color inspiration for my layout.

I started out by picking out my embroidery floss colors.

To get the range of color I wanted I ended up choosing 16 different colors. Then after I used the cut file to pierce the holes on my Silhouette I divided the quilt design into 16 small sections. That ended up being sixteen 12 x 3/4" sections.

I wanted the stitching to really stand out and add a lot of texture so instead of using my usual 3 strands, I stitched with all 6.

I started at the top with the lightest green/yellow and stitched about 3/4" down the design. I didn't worry about the stitching stopping at the exact same hole across layout. Having them fade into the next color at different holes helps it all blend together better.

For the rest of the layout I used a few pieces of patterned paper layered together to create a background for my photos. Then I surrounded them with lots of stars in varying texture and color and dimension.

This ended up being such a fun project to work on! The stitching took a lot of time, but it was so satisfying to watch it come together and see the color fad into the next one. Even my kids commented on how cool it looked!

My second guest designer layout will be shared next Friday so if you enjoy lots of stitching be sure to come back!
