Scrapbook Design Idea: Large Birthday Cake

I don't quite know why, but I have always loved creating themed elements on my layout. I think I like the challenge of piecing them together and then adding special details. With the layout I'm sharing today I created a large birthday cake design to go with photos of Jackson and Stacey celebrating their birthday together. Birthday buddies, we call them.

Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper and stickers: Echo Park; Icing cut file: Silhouette Design Store, Miss Kate Cuttables #55815; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Century Gothic

To make this cake I cut three "tiers" out of patterned paper and then used my Silhouette to cut out the icing.

There is an oval the goes behind the next tier and then the drippy part goes in front. Then to help it blend as one piece of icing I added a white stitched border.

I wanted to add some fun detail to each layer of the cake so I made different clusters with a title on the bottom, a banner on the middle one, and then the top one is covered with candles, stars, and confetti.
