Sketch Support #43 | Learn How to Use and Adapt Scrapbook Sketches | Day 2

Once a month learn how to use scrapbook sketches and adapt them to fit different styles, photo sizes, and themes. Sketches = endless scrapbooking ideas with little effort. Sketches do all the heavy lifting allowing you to have all the fun!

For my day 2 layout I created a version of the sketch that doesn't require an electronic die cutting machine or hand-stitching. It still follows the general design and placement of the sketch with a few small adjustments.

Here is the one-page sketch that I'll be using this week:

This month it is a 3-page PDF of 23 different sketch options. That makes 24 sketches for this month of Sketch Support. There are options that show how to change up the papers, use more photos, use less photos, there are four two-page options, and then an 8-1/2 x 11" option. The fun part is that you could use each option as a layout on its own, but you could also mix and match different options for endless possibilities!

Variation #1 - Use a large cluster of shapes to create the swirl.

For this layout I opted to skip the stitching (shocking, I know!) and used a bunch of butterflies to create the swirl. I found this to be incredibly easy to put together and arrange!

I fussy cut the butterflies from a Vicki Boutin patterned paper and arranged them to follow the color fade that the paper had. You can see how the fade was meant to be because there are some butterflies that have two colors.

For example, from red to pink there's a butterfly with red at the top and pink at the bottom. I also decided to start with the red at the bottom right since Jackson has one a red romper. My title also follows the color scheme.

I love thinking of all the different ways you could construct this design as a cluster instead of the stitched base. You could use...

• punched or die cut shapes like hearts, circles, stars, or flowers

• pre-made packages of die cuts

• theme specific die cuts like Christmas ornaments, beach balls, or Easter eggs

• strips, squares, diamonds, arrows, banners, and other cuts of paper

There are so many possibilities!

To fill out the design I added some stitched swirls and used a teeny tiny hand punch to punch our some small butterflies in coordinating colors. I also added some color coordinated word/phrase stickers and jewels throughout the design.

Even with fussy cutting all of those butterflies, this layout went together really quick! I would image if you used punches or pre-made die cuts this could be a super speedy layout!

That's it for today! Be sure to check back tomorrow for layout #3!
