Fun With Photo Blocks #15

Get the best of both worlds by including more photos with a large photo block on one side of your layout while still having some fun by creating a more traditional scrapbooking design on the other.

Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Pattnered paper, brads, chipboard pieces, and stickers: Simple Stories; Heart punches: Recollections; Ink: Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Century Gothic

I always explain these "photo block" layouts as one side of the layout being made up of a large photo block while the other side follows a more traditional scrapbook design. My layout today still follows that trend, but it also has large photo blocks on both pages.

On the right side, I covered the whole layout in two 6 x 4" photos, a 6 x 4" card with a 2 x 3" photo, and a 6 x12" piece with two 3 x 5" photos.

One of my favorite things about Simple Stories is how well designed their papers are and how fun it is to add your own designs to what they have. In the end, it looks like I've put a lot of work and detail into a layout when really they've done most of the work for me. For example, the 6 x 12" piece I used had the word "family" on the bottom along with some banners.

I added the "brothers" on the bottom with letter stickers and my two 3 x 5" photos in the open space above the banners. To add a little more embellishments I added some punched and sticker hearts.

I also added a small photo to the 6 x 4" card along with some stitching.

On the left page, I still had quite a few photos I wanted to include and typically when I have a lot of photos my mind goes to a photo block design. It's the easiest way to include a lot of photos and there are so many different photo combinations you can come up with to create all kinds of photo blocks.

To the right of the photo block I added a few strips and my journaling.

My title is overlapped onto the large photo in the photo block.

To finish the design I added a background piece and some hand-stitching.
