Scrapbook Design Idea | Star Shaped Cluster Frame
I always love a fun cluster design! And, this one was a especially fun to create since it was stars on stars framing a larger star. (Just an FYI - I love creating with stars!) I started off by cutting a large star out of white cardstock. Then I added the chain link stitched border around the edge in a dark blue. I used my Silhouette to cut out lots of stars in a variety of patterned papers and in a variety of sizes well. To add those stars to the edge of the stitched star, I

Scrapbook Design Idea | Rainbow Hexagon Grid
This layout has three things I absolutely love... A rainbow color scheme Hexagons A grid design To create this grid design I started off by drawing the lines for the white stitched lines. Doing this first made it so much easier to arrange those hexagons in straight lines! To create the rainbow, I wanted each column of hexagons to be one color family going from red and coral on the left to pink and purple on the right. For each color I punched a different patterned paper in va

Scrapbook Design Idea | Easy 4x6" Photo Layout
I love photos of all sizes, but it's hard not to admit that layouts using all 4 x 6" photos come together so fast! Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper: Simple Stories, Bella Blvd., My Mind's Eye, American Crafts, and PhotoPlay; Circle die cuts: Cocoa Vanilla; Circle punches: Fiskars; Star punches: Fiskars and Recollections; Foam alphabet: Simple Stories; Acrylic title: Color Cast Designs; Embroidery floss: DMC; Computer font: Century Gothic This layout

Scrapbook Design Idea | Sectioned Background
A lot of times when I kind of stumble on a new (to me) concept, I tend to use it often. I am a strong believer in using concepts over and over. We don't always have to reinvent the wheel. I tend to focus on the concept and think of ways I can adapt it to different shapes or themes or ideas. The layout I'm sharing today features a concept that I've been kind of obsessed with lately. Supplies used - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper and die cuts: Echo Park "Bee Happy"

Layout From a Sketch Using New 3-Photo Sketches at SG
Earlier this week we added a new set of sketches to the Scrapbook Generation store that features designs using 3 photos. Get them here: 3-photo, One-page Sketches I used one of those sketches to create the layout below... I made a few adaptations to the design to work with different photos and a different theme. Here's what I changed: First, I flipped the sketch design. I did that mostly to work with the direction I am facing in the photos (since I take up the majority of the

One Patterned Paper, Two Layouts: Layout #1
Whenever I use my Silhouette I tend to think of future layouts whenever I am making my cuts. I like to make sure I'm left with a leftover piece that can be used on something else. I'm one of those that will save every little scrap so I can't imagine cutting with abandon and tossing the rest of the paper. This week I've got two layouts to share that the main design for both layouts is made from one sheet of pattern paper. One layout uses the die cut, the other one uses the pap

Scrapbook Design Idea | Heart Filled Sunburst
This is not the first time I've created a sunburst-style design with stitch hearts in it. It's just one of those design concepts that I'll forever enjoy creating and the end result is always so fun and detailed! For this layout the sunburst patterned paper did a large portion of the work! I love papers like that! The ones that already have a strong design element on them that you can use just as it is or maybe add some extra details to it. I decided to first cut down the seam

Scrapbook Design Idea | Cluster Background
This layout has lots of detail and yet was super easier to construct thanks to some punches and a 6x6" paper pad! I used a 4 different sizes of heart punches with 9 different patterned papers. The great thing about 6x6" papers is that patterns are smaller so they work really well with punches! You can punch out a tiny shape and still get a decent representation of that pattern on it. Small papers and patterns for the win!! When it came to arranging the design, I didn't really

Cut File Idea | Slanted Strips Backing
From the day I made this rainbow cut file I've been waiting for some free time to create with it! I'm so glad I finally got to make that happen! Here's the cut file I used... Get at Scrapbook Generation here: Rainbow Cut File And here's the layout I created with it... I used a mix of different patterned papers from various 6x6" paper pads to fill in the four different sections of pink, yellow, orange, and teal. I thought it would be fun to include lots of different patterns i

Scrapbook Design Idea | Slanted Strips Background
This ended up being such a fun, colorful background design and a concept that I can see myself using over and over again! To create this design I started by cutting two background pieces (one for the left, one for the right) out of cardstock to create a template for the strips. I used a ruler and pencil to draw the slanted lines that will create the shape of the strips. I also numbered the strips from left to right so I knew which ones would go where on the layout. Then I use

Scrapbook Design Idea | Corner Cluster Frames
I'm sure I'm not the only one that has ended up with a "no more photos" kind of hand gesture from their kids! I know I have several from both of my boys! For this layout I used a bunched of stars cut from various papers in a variety of sizes to create two larger clusters in opposite corners. I LOVE this design concept so much! It's such a fun way to include a lot of detail without overpowering your photos. The white space helps to highlight the framing aspect of the two clust
